Florida Association of Food Banks

The Florida Association of Food Banks is a 501c(3) organization and is committed to making sure that families that need food can get it in a dignified manner that serves as a real safety net for those who fall on difficult times. Our 16 member food banks serve all 67 counties in the state of Florida.

We are affiliated with Feeding America (formerly known as America’s Second Harvest) who has a nationally recognized food distribution system and has 200 member food banks throughout the country. Feeding America's mission is remains feeding America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engaging our country in the fight to end hunger. Feeding America has made a real commitment to make sure that its members serve every county in the U.S. Our members accomplish many of their goals by working with others such as local communities, farmers, grocery stores, private business and local, state and federal governments to find ways to improve food and service distribution.

Collectively, our association distributed over 80 million pounds of food to Floridians in Fiscal year 2006-2007 alone. In this land of plenty, there are plenty of people hungry. According to US Census data, Florida's population has grown 19.5% while the number of people in poverty has grown 43% in the past decade. So, the number of families in need of help with basic food in Florida continues to grow. In Florida, the fastest growing segment of families in need are the ones that have at least one family member working, and in some cases, working more than one job.
